The inside left side reads:
At the age of ten years, began study of art, and painted at fifteen in oil and water colors with Prof. Holmes, of Philadelphia. Pupil of Fidelia Bridges, Moran, and Bispham. Studied in the Academy of Design, Art Students League, and in Europe. Painted principally on the Atlantic Coast and the West Indies.
