Born in Chicago, IL on April 29, 1905. "Betty" Atchison moved to southern California at an early age. After graduating from Bishop School for Girls in La Jolla in 1921, she studied art and dance in France. On the ship back she met Jim Donlon with whom she eloped. During the next 70 years she lived in Pasadena and San Marino and was active in their art scenes. Her painting partners included Sam Hyde Harris, Rex Brandt, and Dong Kingman. Initially an oil painter, she later switched to watercolor. Many of her landscapes are of the sycamores in the Arroyo Seco. Mrs. Donlon died on Nov. 28, 1994.
