Biography Elizabeth Myrick
A painter and art teacher, Elizabeth Myrick arrived in Morgan Park, Illinois when it was undeveloped territory, and her family became the first residents as her father formed a settlement corporation on land acquired from the railroad. In 1874, she, a graduate of Cook County Normal School, became the first teacher of the first Morgan Park school, a one-room structure. She stayed in that position for eight years, and then taught for several years in the replacement building.
As an artist, she studied in Chicago under John Vanderpoel, and her specialty became florals still life. In her obituary, it was stated that "She painted flowers lovingly because she loved them." The obituary also quoted a French art publication, the "Revue du Vr
