Today, we would say that when Richard Thayer and his wife arrived in America in 1641, that they already had an artistic gene in their DNA that went back generations. So it is not surprising that 250 years later, a simple thing like polio did not stop Betty’s mother Elizabeth Hamilton Thayer Huntington (1878-1962) from bursting on the Boston art scene. She painted from her wheel chair. Raymond, her broker husband cheerfully brought her works downtown to the Guild of Boston Artists, where they cheerfully sold them.
