Biography Elizabeth Holsman
A painter and sculptor, Elizabeth Holsman was born in Brownville, Nebraska. She earned a degree from the University of Nebraska in 1893 and at age twenty, joined the art faculty. She taught for one year, and then moved to Chicago to attend the Art Institute. She spent most of her adult life there.
She was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists, the Chicago Art Club and the Chicago Gallery Association. She traveled extensively for subject matter including to the Orient, northern California, Yellowstone National Park, and the Florida Everglades where she painted birds as part of a project funded by the Audubon Society.
