Biography Ellen Sprague
Californian Ellen Sprague found great influence for her art from her childhood experiences of living in an adobe house near Chimayo, New Mexico for three years while her father, a civil engineer, worked on a nearby construction project.
She earned a degree in fine arts from Colorado College but put a painting career on hold while she raised her family. Later Sprague attended workshops by Sergei Bongart and was even awarded scholarships by the artist. She also studied with Albert Handell who introduced her to the medium of pastels.
Sprague paints pastel still lifes and continues to be influenced by her time in New Mexico. She is a Signature Member of the Society of Western Artists and a member of the Pastel Society of the West
