Ellen S. (Titus) Binet (1851 - 1934)
in New York, Ellen was one of four children born to Hazard W. and
Catherine Titus. By 1868 the family had settled in Coldwater, Michigan,
where her father worked as a carpenter
and later as a wagon maker. This location would have been
extremely influential to a young lady awakening to the pleasures of an
interest in art. Coldwater, at that time, was the home of the Henry
Clay Lewis Art Gallery.
