Biography Emma Homan Thayer
Born in New York City, her specialty was floral painting and illustration. She was educated at Rutgers College and then studied at the National Academy of Design where she was one of the original students of William Merritt Chase. She married George Graves at age 18 and was widowed at age 22. Three years later, she remarried and in 1882 moved to Denver. She wrote and illustrated a book titled "Wild Flowers of Colorado" and "Wild Flowers of the Pacific Coast."
