Emma Humphreys

Emma Humphreys was active/lived in Texas.  Emma Humphreys is known for painting, teaching.

Biography   Emma Humphreys


A resident of Waco, Texas, Emma Humphreys graduated from the University, which in 1886 merged with Baylor University. She settled in Texas, where she was married to Samuel Humphreys and where she had well-known uncles, Reerends Richard Byrd Burleson and Rufus C. Burleson.

She also studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and in Chautauqua, New York. She was a student of Vincent Nowattny.

From 1891 to 1901, she was chair of the Baylor University Art Department. She also taught at the Waco Conservatory of Music and Art beginning 1911.

Her work is in the collection of Texas Federation of Women's Clubs.
