Emma Lea Buell was born in California on May 24, 1864. After graduating from Oakland High School, Emma had a studio in Oakland in 1883. By 1890 she was the wife of Charles L. Buell and living in Sacramento. By 1910 she was on a fruit farm in Elkhorn (San Joaquin County) and remained there until her demise on June 7, 1943.
