Emma Steer Speed Sampson was active/lived in Kentucky, Virginia.  Emma Sampson is known for painting, juvenile fiction writing and illustration.

Biography   Emma Steer Speed Sampson

Emma Speed was born in Kentucky, and originally set out to be an artist; she studied in Paris for two years, and also at the Art Students League in New York. She married Henry Aylett Sampson; they moved to Richmond, Virginia. It was there that she began her literary career at the age of 45.

She produced a series of books for younger readers titled Miss Minerva. She also worked as a columnist at The Richmond Times Dispatch, and served on the State Board of Motion Picture Censors.
