Ernest Walter Ritter (1891-1949)
An acclaimed painter, artistic materials director for plays, photographer, author, explorer and naturalist, Ernest Walter Ritter lived a colorful and productive life. Born in Colorado on April 22nd, 1891, Ritter moved to Los Angeles in 1918.
Receiving a coveted commission by the Union Pacific Railroad as an artist, Ritter was tasked with traveling the western United States to capture on canvas the breathtaking views of our western National Parks. He gained fame for his mural sized panels of oil on canvas that graced the walls of the Union Pacific train station and ticket offices in Santa Monica, California.
