Ernst A. Otto was born in Germany on December 2, 1843. He immigrated to San Francisco in 1877. In 1890 he supervised a crew of 36 decorators during the building of the Barton Opera House in Fresno. A professional photographer, he also painted scenes of the Golden Gate, Cliff House, and other local spots. He died in San Francisco on December 2, 1922.
