Biography   Forshaw Day


The following is from Lauren Mirabelli, researcher of this artist and a staff member of the Waverley Heritage Museum in Waverley, Nova Scotia, Canada.

James McNeill Whistler was three years old in 1837 when Forshaw Day was born in London. After studying architecture and design at the Royal Dublin Society and South Kensington Art Schools there, Day came to Halifax at age 25 to be a draftsman in H.M. Naval Yard from 1862-79, during which time he also made pictures and taught painting. Throughout the 70's and 80's Day exhibited at the Toronto Industrial Exhibition (later the Canadian National), entering the Philadelphia Centennia Expositionl in 1876 as well.

He became Professor of Freehand Drawing at Royal Military College, Kin   ...  Displaying 750 of 1971 characters.
