Biography   Francoise Sullivan

Francoise Sullivan is a Canadian artist who pioneered the modern art movement in that country. Her varied career embraced dance, choreography, welded-medal sculpture, conceptual art, representational painting, collage and large scale abstract painting.

In 1948 Sullivan was a signator of the Automatist manifesto "Le Refus Global" a document protesting the stifling environment in Quebec during the regime of Premier Maurice Duplessis. The Automatists were a Canadian group similar to the Abstract Expressionists in the United States.
