Biography Frederick William Quartley
Frederick Quartley was an engraver and landscape painter who was born in Bath, England, and died in New York City. His reputation is primarily for his wood engravings including for publications called "Picturesque America" (1872) and "Picturesque Europe" (1875). At age 16, he took up wood engraving, and then came to America with his son after the death of his wife in 1851. The son, Arthur Quartley, also became a well-known artist.
