Frederick Winthrop Ramsdell (1865 - 1915)
Frederick Winthrop Ramsdell was born in Manistee, Michigan, on December 9, 1865, the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Ramsdell. He was educated in the public schools of that city, graduating from Manistee High School, which he followed up with a course at the University of Michigan. He then began his artistic education at The Art Students League* in New York under James Carroll Beckwith and later in Paris under Raphael Collin.
Of a natural artistic trend and temperament, he sojourned about 15 years abroad in the study of art, learning incidentally in connection many languages and accomplishments. Ramsdell was married in 1894 at St. Iv
