Biography Frits Sieger, Sr.
Frederik (Frits) Sieger Sr. was born on 5 May 1893 in Amsterdam. He grew up in Kinkerbuurt, as the son of a plasterer. At that time, a plasterer was considered half a craftsman and half an artist---an artisan who immediately applied the ornaments in plaster by hand. Frederik Sieger was an artistic man. In his spare time, he cut figures and portraits out of wood and also liked to draw them. As an active member of the emancipating labor movement, he had great admiration for Marx and Domela Nieuwenhuis. From the former he made a portrait in mahogany, cut from a cover.
