Biography Fritz Wotruba
Fritz Wotruba was born in Vienna in 1907. His work is determined by the geometrical abstraction with the cube as the basic form. However, he did not understand himself as an exponent of the 'Postcubism'. Wotruba was trained in the techniques of engraving, stamping, drawing and sculpture.
During the Second World War, the artist emigrated to Switzerland. From 1945, he worked as a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1948 and in 1952, he exhibited at the Venice Biennale. He was also represented three times at the documenta in Kassel.
