Biography Gar Sparks
The story of Gar Sparks is unique. He is a key figure in American Modern art; but because of his peculiar path in life, he is nearly unknown. In 1913 Sparks was studying at the Art Students' League in New York. Sparks needed a job so he applied, and was given a position as a salesman at the Armory Show. He was the top seller at the show with a grand total of $45,000, including Marcel Duchamp's "Nude Descending a Staircase". This sale gave Sparks a well-earned connection to Duchamp, which became central to Sparks' late art career.
