Biography Gaston Besson
Gaston Besson was born in Cholet, France in 1894. At a young age he joined the French Army to serve in World War I. Gaston spent three years as a prisoner of war. Gaston never fully recovered from his injuries and decided to take up painting. After his release he migrated to the United States.
While living in New York, Gaston studied at the Whitney Studio Club and shared many shows featuring his oils and watercolors in the 1920s and 1930s. From 1926 to 1932 he also exhibited in Adelaide Lawson and Hamiton Easter Fields' "Salons Of America" a non-juried, no award art show that flourished from 1922-1936.
