Cowles, Genevieve Alameda    (1871-1950)

Artist, illustrator.  Born Farmington, Connecticut, February 23, 1871.  Daughter of James Lewis and Martha Lancaster (Gwaltney) Cowles.  General Education private; studied art in Europe and at Yale Art School, New Haven, Connecticut, and at Cowles Art School, Boston. 

Began as instructor with McClure’s Magazine; later much work in stained glass windows and art frescoes for mural decoration, a notable example being the Charge to St. Peter in the Chapel at the Connecticut State Prison.
