Genevieve Hamlin

Genevieve Karr Hamlin was active/lived in New Jersey, New York.  Genevieve Hamlin is known for portrait and animal sculpture.


Biography   Genevieve Hamlin

A teacher, craftsperson, and sculptor of animal subjects and portrait heads including medallions*, Genevieve Hamlin had a distinguished teaching career:  She taught in the Newark, New Jersey School of Fine and Industrial Arts from 1926 to 1943.  Then she lived in Putney, Vermont for several years and became founder of Putney Pottery at the Putney School.  From 1949 to 50, she was a teacher at Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York, and from 1950 to 1958, was instructor of sculpture and pottery at Oneonta High School. 

After that, having lived in Putney, Maine, and Harpursville, New York, she settled in New York City where she had been born.
