Gennadi Zubkov was born in Perm, Russia in 1940. He lives in St. Petersburg, Russia. He studied the concepts of Impressionism, Cubism, Suprematism and Matushin's Color Theory under the tutelage of well known artist Vladimir Vasilyevich Sterligov. Zubkov belongs to the leading modern painters in his country, painters who refused the dictates of socialist realism and moved to more abstract images.
Even though he is a little older than most of the other members of the group, Zubkov is considered one of the leading exponents of teaching of Vladimir Sterligov. This group is known as " Steligovites". From Sterligov's "sperical geometry theory" Zubkov derived a new painting method "Form Creates Form."
