George Geistweite

 (1761 - 1831)
George (Reverend George) Geistweite was active/lived in Pennsylvania.  George Geistweite is known for fraktur-document decoration.

Biography   George Geistweite

A Pennsylvania German minister in Pennsylvania, Rev. George Geistweite was licensed for the ministry in 1794 at a meeting of a German Reformed Synod in Reading.  Geistweite then served in surrounding congregations including Buffalo Valley and Penn's Creek.

In 1804, he accepted a call to York, Pennsylvania where he spent the remainder of his life and died on November 11, 1831 at age 73.  He is buried in the cemetery there of the Reformed Church.

Reportedly he was a very kindly man and also had a talent for decorative painting of documents or frakturs.  In 1801, he did two of them for the Bowers family, one of them a marriage document.  Mr. Bower was a day-student of Geistweite.
