Biography George Geistweite
A Pennsylvania German minister in Pennsylvania, Rev. George Geistweite
was licensed for the ministry in 1794 at a meeting of a German Reformed
Synod in Reading. Geistweite then served in surrounding
congregations including Buffalo Valley and Penn's Creek.
1804, he accepted a call to York, Pennsylvania where he spent the
remainder of his life and died on November 11, 1831 at age 73. He
is buried in the cemetery there of the Reformed Church.
he was a very kindly man and also had a talent for decorative painting
of documents or frakturs. In 1801, he did two of them for the
Bowers family, one of them a marriage document. Mr. Bower was a
day-student of Geistweite.
