Biography George Walcutt
George E. Walcutt was a portrait and landscape painter and a bit of a 'wag': he announced in the 1848 Columbus directory that he was at "the corner of High and Town streets, up stairs… All kinds of painting done, except house painting, which will be done if brought to his rooms."
Around 1857 he began experimenting with "trance painting," in an attempt to make portraits of the deceased with help from the "spirit world." Perhaps the transmissions were too strong; two or three years later, he gave up painting for good.
