Georges Loranger 1931-1993)
He was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, in 1931. In 1952-4 he attended McMaster University, Hamilton, where he studied painting and drawing with Dr. Naomi Jackson at the McMaster University Art Club. In 1954-5 he studied art at the Ecole du Louvre and the Sorbonne in Paris, France. Loranger was a painter mainly in collage and mixed media. However, he also produced works in oils, water colors and tempera. Loranger's work was in the abstract expressionist style, influenced by the Automatists movement and the Russian painter Nicholas de Staël (1914-1955).
