Georgette Agutte was born May 17, 1867 in Paris. She is well
known for portraits of celebrities such as Gustave Kahn, imaginary
figures and still lifes.
Agutte's careful consideration for the female form includes proportion and musculature.
studied at l'École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Gustave Moreau as did
Matisse and Rouault. Beginning in 1904, Agutte exhibited at the
Salon des Indépendants and participated in the founding of the Salon
d'Automne. In 1910 she exhibited at the Exposition de Bruxelles,
and in 1922 Gustave Kahn organized a retrospective of paintings,
watercolors and sculptures at the Salon d'Automne.
