Biography Gilbert Burling
One of the founders in 1866 of The American Society of Painters in Water Color*, Gilbert Burling had a studio in the New York University Building where the eleven founders of the group initially met. He was a landscape and genre painter whose work suggests he painted in that vicinity as well as Long Island and also Lake Superior and Ireland.
As a member of the ASPWC, he exhibited with that group at the National Academy of Design* beginning 1866 to 1873, and also exhibited with the Brooklyn Art Association*.
