Biography   Gilbert "Magu" Lujan

A Chicano sculptor, muralist and painter, 'Magu' Lujan also was a founding member of 'Los Four', a Chicano art collective in Los Angeles, along with Carlos Almaraz, Beto de la Rocha, and Frank Romero. 

Luján was born in French Camp, California, and his parents were Mexican and Native American.  As a toddler, he lived in migrant worker camp before his family moved to Los Angleles around the start of World War II,  and it was there he spent his childhood and adolescence.

After serving in the Air Force, Lujan returned to Los Angeles and attended college at East Los Angeles College and at California State University at Long Beach, where he earned a B.A. in Ceramics.  He went on to the Universit   ...  Displaying 750 of 2814 characters.
