Biography Hans Andersen Brendekilde
Hans Andersen Brendekilde is one of the most famous Danish plein air painters. He began his artistic training as a stonemason, only studied sculpture, then painting at the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen, specializing in landscape and genre scenes. After the turn of the century his brightly lit, light-filled scenes from the Danish rural life in many exhibitions (Paris, 1889, Munich, 1891, Chicago in 1893, London in 1907) were seen and met an international collector interest so that he counted as far back as the most successful Danish artists, that could compete on the international art market. His works are represented in both private collections and in museums.
