Harold B. Slingerland was born in Saratoga Springs, New York February 18, 1898. He lived in the Albany area where he studied painting with Edward Byck. He attended Harvard College, Cambridge University, Harvard Law and Albany Law Schools. He became a lawyer and a successful businessman. He lived in Sarasota, Florida from the 1940's until his death in April 1985.
In Florida, he was very active in the art community and exhibited widely. He was a member of the Salmagundi Art Club of New York City that was founded by students from the National Academy of Design and functioned in its early years as a kind of men's club (women were admitted only in 1973). Over
