Born in Hawaii, Harold Mott-Smith was a painter who lived in Paris from 1894-1906. He studied at the Academie Julian with Jean Paul Laurens, and exhibited in 1894 with the Boston Art Club as well as Paris Salon.

I am the grandson of H.M. Mott-Smith. After he returned from France he worked for the General Electric company in Schectady, New York. He was the artist for the GE calenders, did portraits of their famous scientists such as Edison and Steinmetz (inventor of alternating current).
