Harold Sherman Hewlett was born 1893 in Joliet, Illinois. He moved to Chicago, Illinois and while there attended the Art Institute for approximately nine months. Harold and his wife, Mary, moved back to Joliet in 1918 where he worked free lance for many concerns. In 1921, he worked as a commercial artist for the Joliet Carton Company; also, he worked on the design of the picture of the little girl with blonde curls eating a slice of bread that eventually appeared on the wrapper for Sunbeam Bread.
