Biography Harold Maddocks
Born in 1889 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Harold Maddocks, a landscape and seascape painter, developed a life-long love of the sea. He was also active in arts groups, serving several in them significantly in organzational matters.
He graduated from Gloucester High School and then studied with Joseph De Camp. In 1910, Maddocks became a member of the Copley Society in Boston. He graduated in 1912 from Massachusetts Normal Art School where he had been a sculpture student of John Wilson.
Subsequently he studied with Mildred Jones, Aldro T. Hibbard and Harry Ballinger. He became a resident of Gloucester, where he was a key person in organizing art activity at Cape Ann and was involved in non-art related bus
