Biography Harriet Grandstaff
Harriet Phillips Grandstaff was a fashion illustrator and art teacher. In addition, she painted landscapes and portraits. She was born in Longview, Texas and lived in Bryan, Texas before going to New York to study at Columbia University. She returned to Texas in 1919 and began studies with Frank Reaugh and Vivian Aunspaugh in Dallas. Grandstaff continued her studies in Nashville, Indiana under Louis Oscar Griffith.
Grandstaff worked as a fashion illustrator for the Sanger Brothers and Neiman-Marcus department stores in Dallas. In 1940 she began teaching at the Dallas Art Institute. Her paintings appeared on the covers of Farm and Ranch magazine and Holland's magazine.
