Helen Isabel Howell was born in Cleves, OH on March 24, 1882. Howell studied in Cincinnati at Teacher's College and the Art Academy, and continued in NYC at the ASL. She then taught art in the public schools of Cincinnati from about 1910. In the early 1920s she moved to Los Angeles and became active in the local art scene. Due to the Depression and lack of work, she returned to Cincinnati in the mid-1930s and taught at College Prepartory School for Girls for over 20 years. Howell died in Cincinnati in June 1972.
