Helen Kiner McCarthy was active/lived in Pennsylvania, New York.  Helen McCarthy is known for landscape, harborviews and portrait painting.

Biography   Helen Kiner McCarthy

Born in Poland, Ohio, Helen Kiner McCarthy studied at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women* (1904-09).  Her teachers were Elliott Daingerfield and Henry B. Snell.  Following her studies, she lived in Philadelphia where she shared a studio first with Mary-Russell Ferrell Colton (1909-12) and then with Lucille Howard. She taught off and on at her alma mater and became a founding member of the Philadelphia Ten* Women Painters in 1917.

In 1920, McCarthy moved to New York City and established a studio at East 40th St. in Greenwich Village. She began signing her paintings with her mother's surname as her middle name from then on, i.e. Helen K. (Kiner) McCarthy.
