Toerring, Helene  (Kunze)  (1870 – 1949)

Born Helene Kunze, December 1870, in Davenport, Iowa, she was the daughter of Dr. A. Kunze of Prussia and his wife Helen (Lofrenz) Kunze. Helene married Christian Toerring who was Danish and whose parents had immigrated to Iowa from Denmark in 1847. They were married in 1894 but Christian died young (in 1910) leaving Helene as a widow with a young daughter, named Helene Carlotta Toerring. 

By 1896 Helene Kunze Toerring was illustrating stories by Fannie J. Taylor, which were well received. The 1900 Census found the family living in Philadelphia, where her husband worked for a Lamp Manufacturer and, interestingly, although she was already a published artist/illustrator, n   ...  Displaying 750 of 1996 characters.
