Biography Henri Pierre Pharamond Blanchard
Henri Pierre Léon Pharamond Blanchard (1805-1873) comes from La Guillotière, a suburb of Lyon. He was trained
under the neo-classical Napoleonic painter Antoine-Jean Gros at the
École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
During journeys to Mexico, North Africa
and Russia he was able to develop his style. In Mexico, he was part of
the French expedition from 1858 until 1859. When he was in Russia in
1856, he was present at the coronation of Alexander II.
The main part of
his work comprises lithograph. He worked for a few newspapers, for
example L'Illustration in Paris. He published the work L'Itinéraire
Historique et Descriptif de Paris à Constantinople in 12 plates in 1855
