Biography Henriette Browne
'Henriette Browne' was the pseudonym of Madame Jules de Saulx, born Sophie Boutellier, a Paris born painter and engraver. After learning to paint under Penn and Chaplin, the artist turned to portrait and genre painting, concentrating mainly on scenes of families and children, and later oriental motifs.
Her works were exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1853 and later at the Royal Academy from 1871-79. Browne's oeuvre is characterized by her interest in everyday life and the accurate portrayal of reality- qualities typical of the French realist movement emerging in the 1840s.
