Biography Henry Hanington
Henry Hanington and his brother William J. Hanington began as commercial artists in New York City about 1832. Eventually they formed a company, Hanington's Moving Dioramas, and produced and exhibited all over the country a large number of spectacular moving dioramas on such subjects as The Deluge, Conflagration of Moscow, New York Fire of Dec. 16, 1835, Stellar Universe, a moving telescopic diorama, The Creation and Crimean War.
The last-named was shown in Cincinnati and New Orleans during the winter of 1855-56, after which the name of Henry Hanington disappears from the record, though his brother was active as late as 1870. Artists working with the Haningtons include Ciceri; Peter Grain, Sr.; J. Hillyard;
