Biography Henry Pidding
Henry Pidding was a
figure, genre, still life painter, and engraver, who did some works in
mezzotint. Many of his subjects were humorous scenes from
domestic life, which became quite popular. A large painting,
1860, by him was of the gaming rooms at Homburg. He also etched a
series of six illustrations dedicated to The Rival Demons, an anonymous poem dated 1836.
He was born in 1797 in Cornhill, London where his father was a stationer and lottery office keeper.
Pidding was a pupil of Agostino Aglio. Pidding had exhibited 21
paintings from 1824 at the Royal Academy, and 42 at the British
