Biography Henry, Jr. Hays
By 1854 Henry Hays, Jr. was in business in New York City as an engraver in association with his father, Henry Hays, Sr., a heraldist. Apparently they were in business together until about 1865, and then the younger man carried on independently. In 1870 he was listed as a genealogist and heraldic engraver.
"As a pupil at Public School No. 7, New York City, he won a diploma for pen drawings at the American Institute Fairs of 1848, 1849 (along with other child artists, N. P. Beers and Francis Silva), and 1851 (silver medal for "superior steel engraving")."
