Biography Henry Waugh
A nephew of Samuel Bell Waugh, theatre panoramist, Henry Waugh was a sketch artist, landscape and scenery painter.
He was in Indianapolis, Indiana when he was between the ages of 18 and 20 and was part of a theatrical troupe. During the winter of 1853 and 1854, he worked as an assistant to Jacob Cox on a 30-scene panorama, whose theme was temperance. While there, he also painted scenery, easel landscape paintings, and created banners.
To earn money for study in Europe, he worked as a circus clown, using the name of "Dilly Fay," and on tour with the circus, he was in New Orleans between 1858 and 1859 and did paintings and sketches of the Mississippi River.
