The following, submitted May 2005, is from Ben Landis, who has researched the artist.
The artist signed his first name in several different ways: Herman, Hermann, Herrmann. On two of his drawings with which I am familiar he added after his name "pinxit". On one of these drawings below his name is the name "John Becker". On that same drawing there is a stamp that appears to be an escutcheon with 3 crosses in a triangular pattern split by a v-shaped chevron. This escutcheon is stamped two times side by side, once on the front of the drawing, once on the back. Of the drawings with which I am familiar that are dated, the dates are 1876; July 8, 1884; December 1884. All the drawings with which I am familiar are of residences or buildings
