Homer Wheelon was born in San Jose, CA on June 29, 1888. The son of a Methodist preacher, Wheelon moved from town to town before settling in Seattle. He was educated there at Methodist Seminary and University of Washington. Opting to study medicine, he studied at Northwestern University in Chicago and then taught physiology at St Louis University and University of West Virginia. Having been artistically inclined all his life, upon returning to Seattle he began to concentrate on his art. Working in a broad range of media, he painted, photographed and exhibited in local shows and galleries.
