A new resident artist in Canon City, Howard Leo Barnett, is one of a vanishing breed of American painters. Not surprising is his life-long devotion to his canvas subjects, the vanishing American Indian.
The artist, noted throughout the west for his western life and landscapes, is recognized by the Indian tribes, however, by his Sioux name, Oyate Sha Ya, "Painter of the Nation."
