Recorded with brief mention in Nebraska history as the third wife of Thomas Tibbles, a flamboyant crusader of human rights for Indians, Ida Belle Riddle, however, is deserving of more attention as one of the state’s early female artists. Although low profile and apparently not prolific, she created a well-executed, museum collected oil painting, studied in Omaha with Nebraska’s most prominent early art teacher, and left a scrapbook of treasured images that reflect many years of committed to fine art.
