Biography Ira Remsen
A painter, writer, poet, actor and playwright who was active both in New York and California, Ira Remsen was born in Maryland where his father, Ira Remsen, was a prominent doctor at Johns Hopkins University.
The young Ira studied art in Paris under Benjamin Constant and Jean Paul Laurens, and until 1922, lived in New York City. He then moved to the Monterey Peninsula and set-up a studio in the Seven Arts Building in Carmel.
He was a member of the Carmel Art Association and the Bohemian Club. He did portraits, genre and traveled and painted California landscapes.
